The Emergency Food and Shelter program is a rapid response program, and the local board typically has 35-90 days from the time an award is announced at the National level to submit our local board plan. Any nonprofit, faith-based or local government agency that provides food and shelter services may apply for funds in all phases. Interested agencies must submit an application to the Local Board in the jurisdiction where they are providing services. DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIPS Dollars for Scholars Scholarships are awarded each year to help recognize academic achievement among a larger number of graduating students in Jennings County who have made the choice to pursue higher education. DAY OF CARING Day of Caring Traditionally the third Saturday in April, Day of Caring was a moment in time. Now, reimagined to expand the opportunities and the impact, it is more flexible to meet the needs of our volunteers. Join your co-workers for a few hours to help out an agency, or gather your friends and family to tackle a big job. Choose a workday or a Saturday morning. CHARITY TRACKER - JENNINGS COUNTY ASSISTANCE NETWORK Charity Tracker CharityTracker promotes collaboration and communication between local agencies that work to help people. The result is less duplication of services and improved client outcomes. CharityTracker is a shared case management database that captures information about people experiencing need, including food, shelter, assistance with rent and utilities, and more. This robust system includes HIPPA approved security, an Agency Bulletin Board, Client Referrals, Shared Goals, an Outcomes Module and more. DISASTER RELIEF Disaster Relief Disaster comes in all forms and when you least expect it. Our United Way is ready to step in and access the situation, bring agencies together and provide case management supervision as necessary. During the Downtown Fires, We brought local agencies together with displaced residents in the United Way building even while the fire department was still battling the blaze downtown. This collaboration allowed agencies to effectively serve the people impacted, from establishing a temporary shelter at the Nazerene Church and providing for immediate needs of food and clothing, to assisting with essential relocation support that included rental assistance and even matresses, limiting duplication of service and providing access to help in a single place. The Downtown Fire families were also recipients of Christmas assistance through a partnership with the methodist Church and coordinated by our United Way, that provided items each household needed, from microwaves, cookware, dishes and flatware to linens and rugs to a laundry basket full of supplies. In all, around 20 very low income households were permanently displaced.
